Direct Production

This is where goods and services are produced for own consumption rather than for commercial purposes. It is commonly referred to as subsistence and is much more common in rural areas. However, nowadays it is difficult to find someone living purely on this form of production.

Disadvantages of direct production


   1. Goods and qualities are mainly of low quality and quantity;
   2. Encourages individualism
   3. Leads to low standards of living;
   4. Does not encourage consumption;
   5. Can be very tiring;
   6. Does not encourage invention and innovation;
   7. A lot of time is wasted as one moves from one job to another;
   8. No one has the ability to provide all that he/she requires.
